Thai: ส้มตำ (som tam) or Lao: ຕໍາໝາກຫຸ່ງ (tam mak houng). This is a mild version, but the extra stinky kinds can include dried shrimp, shrimp paste or fermented crab pieces :)

ingredients
1-5 Thai chilis (I added 4)
2 garlic cloves
1 medium sliced tomato
2 T fish sauce
3 T lime juice
1 t sugar
4 cups grated green papaya

Crush the thai chilis with the garlic using a large mortar and pestle. Add the tomato, fish sauce, lime juice, sugar and one cup papaya, and mix all ingredients. Add the remaining papaya and continue to mix until all the ingredients are incorporated.

I AM SO HUNGRY. For lunch, I ate kabob and rice and for dinner I ate an entire stuffed bell pepper and some salad. Then I ate chips and salsa at 10:30 because I could not take the hunger, but guess what THE HUNGER HAS RETURNED.

Last night I made roasted potatoes with garlic and lemon and thyme. As you can see, there is way too much garlic.

After over fifteen years of using the internet, I finally got flamed. I'm a little bummed out. I thought that successfully avoiding internet drama was one of my positive attributes. I think this might be a signal that I really am through with LiveJournal. And that I need to work on being articulate.

I basically made a comment in reference to a post about this article that caused a lot of people to get butthurt. I think that my convo with Mariam explains it pretty well:
[me]: so for the first time ever in the history of me using the internets
[me]: i got flamed
[mariam]: lol what
[mariam]: what is a flame
[me]: lol mariam
[mariam]: srsly

[me]: i made a joke about asian ppl naming their kids names with "l"s even though they cant pronounce
[me]: and it was an obvious stupid joke or so i thought
[me]: but people freeeaked out
[mariam]: thats awesome
[mariam]: whateves
[me]: they were like
[mariam]: internets boards are crazy
[me]: F U DONT U KNOW CHINESE PEOPLE CAN PRONOUNCE IT

[me]: once something blows up
[me]: you cant apologize, b/c people just have fun attacking you
[mariam]: yeah that sounds super sensitive of them
[mariam]: well hopefully its not bothering u
[mariam]: i mean its the internets
[me]: lol no
[mariam]: ppl argue and freak out on there all the itme
[me]: i was just surprised
[mariam]: and aZn pride is notorious u know so w/e
[me]: it's my own fault for using lj
[mariam]: yeah i heard lj went down the drain

[mariam]: speaking of azs, have u seen this insanity: http://tinyurl.com/d4ze44
[me]: THAT IS WHAT THE POST WAS ABOUT
[me]: i was like "wow or we could learn how to say their names. btw y do asian parents always name their kids lily, etc"
[me]: and people had a cow
[mariam]: AHAHAHAHAHA
[mariam]: thats crazies
[me]: my head exploded like 12 times
[me]: cuz i meant it in a stupid way and people thought i seriously didnt know
[mariam]: its okay we can go to mongolian hot pot this wken and mispronounce everything
I know I shouldn't have made the comment given the fact that strangers on the internet can't read my mind and know that I mean no disrespect, nor was I being serious. But really, what is so wrong with joking about pronunciation? It doesn't need to turn into a lesson or a fight about what Asian people can and cannot pronounce. I know Chinese people and most other Eastern Asians can say the /l/ and /r/ sounds, I was just making a stupid joke!!! But besides that, some Asians (not just Japanese!) actually do have difficulty pronouncing their l's, depending on whether it's a hard or soft l sound. I know I'm not just imagining things when some Chinese people screw up the "l" sound in my name. So really, stfu internet.

ETA: I apologize if for a while saying something along the lines of "herro Merody" prompts me to point out that you're a racist. It's just a temporary feeling of false guilt caused by everyone's butthurt.

I spent the earlier part of the day gardening. After planting the tomatoes, zucchini and bell peppers, I took some pictures of the flowers in my backyard. I also noticed that all the hibiscus I planted died D:

More Mooshak )

Last Saturday, my cousin took my sister and I out for an early birthday dinner extravaganza. I had the most delicious fried calamari and a vodka red bull that left me really thirsty until the next morning. I somehow managed to lose control of my crab and chunks of it flew onto my neck and hair. I am an amazing person.

Highlights include:
- Pooping before I arrived to take care of him, but then pooping again when I took him for his morning walk. And pooping one hour later in the living room.
- Knocking over his water bowl and then peeing on the floor after I've finished cleaning up. And then peeing in the same spot after cleaning up the pee.
- Uhh being really adorable, obviously.

On Tuesday, I went to Mizu with Art and his family for Aksone's birthday. I've been pretty Mizu'd out for a while, but I can't bring myself to miss an opportunity to eat lots of cheap sushi. Although it kind of grosses me out how so many people willingly eat the disgusting Chinese food. And Art probably shouldn't have eaten so much crab.

New Year's Day was my last day in Sacramento. After turning in the keys to my apartment, I spent the latter part of Wednesday at Griffin's house. We all had a lot of fun, playing Donkey Kong jenga, some board game, Rock Band, and being entertained by the glowy Playboy sign.

PEACE OUT

This let everyone outside know we were having a grand party.
